This year, Cata Export became coffee producers by purchasing a 30-hectare farm, Cata Reserva, at over 2000MaSL. Their mission includes building community in La Florida, Timaná, where farmers face challenges in commercialising coffee due to transport issues. While restoring the neglected farm, Cata Export has hosted workshops and organised transport to support local farmers. They’ve created a sweet, fruity coffee blend and are excited to inspire new generations of coffee producers.

For processing their coffees, the producers used Cata Export’s standard protocol of handpicking, floating, one day oxidation, dry de-pulping, and slow solar drying for 18 to 25 days until 11% moisture.

“This community lot is a blend of smallholder producers in Timaná. Creating community lots allows us to combine smaller quantities from the beginning or end of a harvest—lots that might be too small to process individually but are still of exceptional quality.”

— Davide Orazi, Project and Community Manager

Origins.
Colombia.

Colombia’s diverse terroir encompasses several coffee producing regions, each with its distinct microclimate and soil composition. Notable coffee regions include Huila, Nariño, Antioquia, and Cauca. These regions contribute to the wide range of flavors found in Colombian coffees.

Colombia cultivates different coffee varietals, such as Caturra, Castillo, Pink Bourbon, Typica, and Gesha to name a few. Coffee farms are often situated in the ideal altitude range of 1,200 to 1,800 MaSL, which provides coffee cherries with ample time to ripen, leading to well-balanced acidity and notable sweetness in the beans.
