The Kii factory is operated by the Rungeto Farmers Cooperative Society, which supports more than 1,000 active farmer members. On average, each farmer maintains approximately 400 coffee trees on about one-third of a hectare of land. The cooperative is governed by a seven-member elected board, with two representatives from each factory catchment area. A secretary-manager oversees 25 permanent staff. Members deliver their coffee cherries to the factory immediately after harvest, where the cherries are sorted, depulped, and fermented (usually overnight). The coffee is then washed with fresh river water and dried in the sun.
We love coffees from Kenya, the quality of flavours and fruity acidity are a hallmark of what we think Specialty Coffee is about. In this lot, we find juicy raspberry and redcurrant notes with a floral vanilla undertone.
