Shwe Taung Thu (“Golden Farmer”) is a producer-led collective of over 3,000 Danu and Pa-O smallholder farmers from 17 villages in Ywangan, Southern Shan State, Myanmar. Women make up 60% of the workforce, playing a pivotal role in its success. This group empowers farmers by granting control over coffee production, pricing, and community contributions, fostering independence and fairer trade practices.
As WatchHouse’s first Asian origin coffee, this lot celebrates Myanmar’s emerging specialty coffee industry, which has flourished since reforms in 2011, with exports beginning in 2016. Excelling in dry natural processing, suited to the region’s climate, each coffee is named for its village of origin.
